Thinking about a career as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)? Most people don’t realize that a CNA career is just around the corner. All it takes is enrolling in a short CNA training class and getting certified. Students can expect to get certified within months, and don’t need to worry about spending years in class and $40,000 at a state university.
CNA Job Description
So, what does a CNA do? Unlike a registered nurse or gerontological nurse, a CNA does not provide medical services. The main role of a CNA is to assist patients, usually elderly or disabled adults, with their daily activities. By helping these patients with basic tasks, CNAs create a better standard of living and a higher level of comfort. Without the assistance of a CNA, these patients might otherwise be incapable of living a normal life. Some of the common job duties a CNA can expect to encounter include:
- Provide transportation services.
- Serve meals and assist patient with eating and drinking.
- Transfer patients from bed to wheelchair.
- Groom, dress, and bathe patients.
Many students worry that they will take CNA training classes and then won’t find a job when they finish. Just the opposite appears to be true. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) has indicated that nursing assistant jobs, grouped into the nursing aides, orderlies, and attendants category, should expect to grow by 20% between 2010 and 2020. This could result in 302,000 new CNA jobs! This is good news for students currently enrolled in a CNA training class or for those who are thinking about enrolling. Find local CNA jobs at Indeed.com.
Online CNA Training Classes
Some students aren’t available to attend CNA training classes on a college campus. This may be due to a busy work schedule or family business. An online CNA training class may be the solution. With an online training program you can get the same level of education, become certified, all with an easy to manage and flexible class schedule.
